Beach Smarts for Life is a program to introduce Chinese international students to Australian surf lifesaving and beach culture
The program focuses on water safety awareness and helps dispel myths to make the beach a relaxed, comfortable, and safe place for students to enjoy.
Students participate in a combination of theoretical and practical activities and mirror a ‘day in the life’ of a life saver. Students will learn basic first aid and CPR techniques as well as general water safety awareness.
The pilot program was run on the Gold Coast over three weekends in November and December 2021.
The Beach Smarts for Life Pilot program on the Gold Coast was managed by Benefactum Pty Ltd with assistance from the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, and delivered through partnerships with Royal Lifesaving Society Queensland, Surf Lifesaving Queensland, Liquid Animation (App and online resources development), and Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre. The program was promoted through Australia China Youth Association and affiliated universities in Queensland.
