In 1995, a group of Chinese surgeons and health providers travelled to Australia with the support of AusAID funding to learn audiology from Australian experts at Macquarie University and the University of Melbourne.

30 years later, this ongoing hearing collaboration between Australia and China has been taken to new heights through Macquarie University’s Australian Newborn Hearing Screening Showcase. Supported by the Foundation and in partnership with the Australian Hearing Hub including Cochlear, this project has brought together leading audiologists across Australia and China for the first time to address shared challenges in newborn hearing screening, and highlight Australia’s world-class facilities, training and expertise in audiology. Through this collaboration, Macquarie University is facilitating improved ear and hearing health outcomes for Australian children, and preventing long-term impacts of hearing loss on speech, language, social and emotional wellbeing.
