Foreign Minister Penny Wong has announced the ninth Australia-China High Level Dialogue, set to be held in Beijing 17- 18 September.
Former Trade Minister, the Hon Dr Craig Emerson will again co-chair the Dialogue as head of the Australian delegation. Of the Dialogue’s significance, Dr Emerson said ‘I am proud to lead the Australian delegation for the third time and contribute to the Albanese government's work in promoting better understanding between our two countries. Dialogue is vital to Australia’s relationship with China. The High Level Dialogue offers the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding with Chinese participants, finding areas where we can cooperate and discussing areas of difference.’
The Australian delegation comprises senior representatives from businesses, peak bodies, cultural institutions and think tanks. Together they represent areas of significance to Australia’s relationship with China, today and into the future.
Mr Gary Cowan, CEO of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations said ‘the Foundation is pleased to be co-hosting this year’s Dialogue. We will explore areas where Australia and China can deepen our cooperation and find opportunities to speak openly and respectfully on issues that are important to Australia and are in our national interest. There is no substitute for regular, open and direct dialogue’.
The Dialogue is co-hosted by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations and the Chinese People’s Institute for Foreign Affairs. China’s delegation will be led by Mr Li Zhaoxing, Honorary President of the Chinese People’s Institute for Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and China’s former Foreign Minister.
