The creative arts offer powerful mediums to share and celebrate diverse stories and identities.

With support from the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, Australian production company Finucane & Smith’s project Under the Same Sky has developed a suite of projects from Cabaret to children’s theatre that embrace diversity, celebrate individuality and uniquely platform Chinese-Australian stories and artists.

Cabaret “House of the Heart” beautifully weaves Chinese and Australian culture, history and language, taking us a journey through story, music and dance. The show celebrates home, family, and belonging in an exploration of Chinese-Australian and Asian-Australian cultural identities.

Under the same funding, “The Rockstar and the Krill” developed a new children’s production exploring environmental sustainability. The all-singing and all-dancing interactive show invites children to dive deep into the ocean, make a krill, save the whale, and save the world! This lively production shows why small things (like krill!) can make a mighty impact and features a culturally diverse cast, including Chinese-Australian performer, Sophie Koh.
