The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations' (the Foundation's) Student Ambassador Program will strengthen the Foundation’s commitment to build understanding between Australian domestic students and Chinese international students, enrich the experience of Chinese international students in Australia and connect students with the community and to development opportunities.

The Student Ambassador program is an opportunity to be part of the Foundation’s activities, develop personal and professional connections through volunteer work, and enhance your leadership skills.  It is open to university students enrolled at Australian universities and lasts for a 12-month period beginning in September 2023.  One domestic student and one Chinese international student will be selected from each state and territory.

Established in 2020, the Foundation is an Australian government initiative that aims to strengthen positive understanding and engagement between Australia and China. The Foundation supports people-to-people links and cooperation in areas of shared interest, including higher education.

As a Student Ambassador, you will participate in select Foundation activities and help promote the work of the Foundation in your state or territory, undertake a minimum of 20 volunteer hours at a relevant organisation with your fellow state/territory Ambassador, commit to attending quarterly virtual meetings with your fellow Student Ambassadors and take part in a one-week outdoor education program funded by the Foundation in the ACT in 2024.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must be a domestic Australian student, or a Chinese student currently enrolled at an Australian university, available to undertake the minimum program and volunteer requirements, and be over the age of 18.

Our ideal candidates are domestic and Chinese international students studying at tertiary institutions, with an interest in Australia-China relations and people-to-people connections. Successful applicants will demonstrate academic excellence, personal or professional interest in the Australia-China relationship, an interest in leadership development, demonstrated resilience and a passion for engaging with the community.
